Evaluate Infralign

Customer effort and onboarding checklist

One person can do the whole connection. The audit needs whoever owns the largest cost lines.

Connecting takes about 45 minutes from one person. The audit takes a working session from whoever owns your largest cost lines. Everything below is what that adds up to, in the order it happens.

Getting an Infralign account in the first place is a separate step and comes before all of it: see before you start.

RoleWhat they doTime needed
Azure technical ownerDefines subscription scope, creates the service principal and role assignments, completes the setup wizard, adds colleagues, explains workload constraints, and owns production decisions. On a lean team this may be the only person needed.About 45 minutes to connect, of which roughly 25 is hands-on, plus the working session
Finance or FinOps contactReconciles billed cost, explains discounts and commitments, and agrees how savings will be measured. The working session and the readout
Identity or security approverReviews the data flow, approves the two Azure roles and any dashboard sign-in consent, and confirms the security position.A few minutes for consent, plus their own review
Executive sponsor (optional)Resolves priority or ownership questions at the audit readout. The readout

One person may cover several roles.

  • Identify the Azure technical owner and the subscriptions to include.
  • Ask for the free audit so your first admin is enrolled, per before you start.
  • Review the free offer and security and data flow.
  • Review the two effective Azure role definitions, or agree a narrower custom role.
  • Assess whether names, tags, allocation labels, or Activity Log fields in scope hold personal, confidential, or regulated values.
  • Note any retention, deletion, subprocessor, or data-processing terms your security team needs confirmed.

Allow about 45 minutes at management group scope, more if you are assigning roles subscription by subscription. The admin’s step-by-step version of this list, with durations and links, is the onboarding checklist.

  • Send the one-time admin consent request first. It is the only step that can wait in an approver’s queue for days.
  • Create an Entra app registration in your tenant.
  • Grant Cost Management Reader and Reader, at management group scope where you can, per subscription where you cannot.
  • Create a client secret and note its expiry date.
  • Complete the four-step setup wizard at app.infralign.ai: paste the values, watch the read-only checks, choose subscriptions, confirm.
  • Add the colleagues who need dashboards, and set each to Admin or Viewer.
  • Test role and credential revocation, and record who can trigger it.

Your admin holds the credential until the last step of the wizard, and it is stored encrypted at that point. Nothing is transferred out of band.

Where a change-control process needs the exact commands, use manual connection.

  • Watch for the mail from support@infralign.ai. Your cost data lands on the first nightly run after you connect, and once that run has landed your dashboards open within one business day (see your first day).
  • Reconcile the billed-cost baseline with finance.
  • Note material events, shared-cost rules, and data gaps to raise in the audit session.
  • Attend the audit working session with the people who own the largest cost lines, so each finding leaves the session with a named owner.
  • Review each priority finding as accept, reject, or investigate.
  • Attend the audit readout.
  • Select which accepted findings receive change planning under an engagement.
  • Review dependencies, risk, validation, and rollback expectations.
  • Merge chosen changes through your own engineering process, and record release dates.
  • Review the measured result once enough Azure billing data has landed, typically in weeks three to four.

No delivery engagement starts unless you accept a written scope and quote. Confirm the visibility tier’s duration and other commercial terms in writing.

If this list looks affordable, the enrolment step and the things to settle before the portal are on before you start. The technical walkthrough is connect Azure.
